Hi, My name is Joe G.  I have been using Talk in French for 5-6 months and am nearly finished with the advanced course.

Talk in French has been phenomenal for me and has undoubtedly accelerated and improved my ability to read, understand and speak French significantly.

  I’ve used DuoLingo some in the past. It was a useful start but is very elementary and doesn’t well explain many of the important grammatical aspects of the language.

Talk In French, throughout the three courses (beginner, intermediate and advanced), repeats and amplifies some of the more difficult tenses, such as the use of the subjunctive (a very important tense in French; more so than in English).  Furthermore, it provides an extensive vocabulary on very practical topics, such as going to the store, traveling or seeking medical help.  Plus, the ability to test your pronunciation within the program is invaluable.

Finally, what I found most valuable are the daily short essays or sentences we are asked to write.  It requires one to construct grammatically correct sentences.  And Sabrina, who grades most of the essays is a true gift.  She is incredibly helpful with proper sentence structures, grammar, the understanding of how the French actually speak and the use of colloquial French.  And she is always open and highly responsive to questions.

I couldn’t be happier with my experience with Sabrina and the rest of the team, and the value I have received.

I’m loving it. Getting targeted feedback and corrections makes all the
difference compared with other online platforms. As they get harder I’m
spacing out the lessons to give me a chance to revise what I’ve learned. I’d
like to think my pronunciation was improving too but won’t know that until I
get to France.

I felt passionate about French when I started learning. I grabbed whatever I
could learn from. It was fun at the beginning but soon I felt I were lost,
drowning in so much materials and information. I realized I didn't have the
proper grammatical knowledge and direction. I did not know where to start
with.

This is why I took the course. And I am glad I did. The course provides me the
solid knowledge and just enough amount of practice. I like the quick
feedback from the teacher on essay quizzes. It motivates me a lot when I
receive personalized feedbacks. We still need that human touch, I guess.

I really enjoy the course. I have a sense of building up the knowledge and
advancing step by step. I especially like recording tool which I can verify my
pronunciation.

I have only been learning for two months on Fredericks “Talk in French” but I
have learned more in that time than I did in 18 plus months on freebie sites on the internet.

I found out that I really needed the discipline that the course gives and not
just going hither and thither from one thing to another on the other sites
getting mixed up and not getting anywhere.

I’m on the intermediate stage and when I’ve finished this course I’m going on
to finish with the advanced. I wish I had done it sooner.

I already purchased two grammar review texts from other sites that had
well-edited exercises. That said, those exercises are no replacement for the
confidence and help provided by Frédéric's prompt corrections and
feedback for the essay lessons in each of the course modules.

This essay option to exchange (in writing) with a native French speaker and
skilled teacher makes all the difference.

On top of that, all the supplementary material (audio and self-correcting
dictées, vocabulary building, etc.) lets you dive deep into the French
language.

Much like learning a musical instrument, a second language is (thankfully!) a
forever project. But TIF is the shoreline that keeps me on course to a
foreseeable goal—to segue into major works of French literature avec un
dictionnaire, bien sûr, mais sans un dictionnaire bilingue français-anglais!

I have lived in France for 3 years now and have tried many different courses.
I wasn't sure about joining the course as I previously spent money on courses
that turned out worse than I had hoped, but I am glad I decided to take the
plunge with Talk in French!
As I live in France, I have to practice speaking in the shops, which can be
daunting, but I am finding more confident with my speaking, and I can
understand more than I did before starting this course.

I’m only in my third week of the course and enjoying it. It did take me a while to get the hang of how to answer some of the questions. And getting my brain into gear about fundamentals like the correct conjugation of verbs. Overall, I think the course is good, and I'm so impressed by Frederic’s daily personal involvement and comments. This is not an anonymous or impersonal language course!

This course is great. I have been working on my school French for a year,
getting ready for retiring to a house in France. I completed several other
online courses and was looking for something more advanced.
The ‘graded essays’ are the best! I definitely found that these graded lessons
pushed me a lot further, and creating my own sentences became easier
(and grammatically correct). Amicablement!
I also love how often Frédéric shows alternatives to make the sentence
sound more natural and conversation-based.

I enjoy the course, especially feedback from the instructor is great. This is a very unique feature! I like the format that includes listening comprehension, pronunciation, and writing practice. So far I really enjoy the course and am thinking of taking the beginner level instead of the advanced one, after finishing this course. Thanks so much!

I'm at an intermediate level but had taken a long break where I didn't use French. Because of that, I felt rusty, so I decided to try going back to basics. It was a great decision. I think other intermediate students in my situation would benefit from revising things using this beginner course.
